Ancient Egyptian Papyrus, and Medical Records

Ancient Egyptian Medical Papyrus was used to keep medical records of medicine in the ancient civilization. Papyri or papyrus was the type of paper or water plants that are cut into strips and tightly pressed to create a surface that is able to be written or drawn on. (Cornelius Stetter) It was used to keep medical records on. These Papyri are extremely important to understanding the health, well-being, disease, treatments, and surgeries in the ancient world of Egypt. It helped Egyptologists learn that they were much more advanced than the rest of the world. The Papyri were written in about 1900 b.c.e. They dealt with topics such as childbirth, gynaecology, women’s reproductive systems, and many more. (Michael and Mary B. Woods) The Ebers papyrus is one of the most famous. It was written about 1500 b.c.e and included how to treat and diagnose different diseases, described how the organs and heart functioned, and gave in-depth information on many topics. Many medical papyri were up to six feet long in length, and were very in-depth and written in hieroglyphs.
